What are the dimensions of the Popov Leather Desk Pad?

The desk pad measures 35.4 inches wide by 11.8 inches deep. That is wide enough to cover a full-size keyboard plus a mouse zone on most standard and sit-stand desks. There is one size only; we do not offer smaller or larger variants at this time.

What kind of leather is the desk pad made from?

9oz full-grain leather, the same belt-weight hide we use for our 9oz leather belts. Full-grain is the strongest layer of the hide and the only grade that develops a true patina. Our current supplier is Seidel, a North American tannery. Unlike coated, split, or bonded desk pads that crack, peel, or delaminate over time, a full-grain leather pad only looks better with age.

Will the leather desk pad scratch my desk?

No. The full-grain leather surface that faces the desk is smooth and will not scratch wood, laminate, glass, or metal finishes. In fact the pad protects the desk underneath from scratches, pen marks, coffee rings, and the small dings that come from setting down mugs, tools, or electronics on a bare desk.

Does the leather desk pad slide around?

No. The 9oz full-grain leather is heavy enough to stay firmly in place under a keyboard, mouse, and the weight of a typical workstation setup. There is no grip coating or rubber backing because none is needed. The heft of the hide does the work. If your desk surface is unusually slick, let the pad sit overnight so it relaxes flat, and it will grip on its own once it has settled.

Does an optical mouse work on the leather pad?

Yes. Any modern optical or laser mouse tracks cleanly on the full-grain leather surface. Customers report better glide on the leather than on cloth pads or on bare glass desks. Over time, the mouse zone will darken slightly into a patina that marks your daily work area.

How do I clean and care for a leather desk pad?

Wipe the surface down with a slightly damp cloth to lift dust, crumbs, or light splashes. For coffee rings or pen ink, blot promptly with a dry cloth; do not rub or flood the leather with water. Once or twice a year, rub a pea-sized amount of leather conditioner into the surface with a soft cloth to keep the hide supple. Do not use saddle soap, household cleaners, or furniture polish. Avoid direct sunlight and radiant heat from vents or lamps for long stretches, both of which can dry out any leather over time.

Dress your desk in leather. The Popov Leather Desk Pad is a single slab of 9oz full-grain leather, hand-cut in Nelson, British Columbia from the same belt-weight hide we use for our 9oz belts. Heavy enough to stay put under a keyboard, mouse, and coffee mug without sliding, and thick enough to protect the desk below it from scratches, pen marks, and set-down dings for the life of the desk.

Sized at 35.4" wide by 11.8" deep, the pad covers a keyboard plus mouse zone on most sit-stand and traditional desks. A solid-leather surface is grippier than cloth and glass, glides well with any optical mouse, and does not attract cat hair the way felt and fabric pads do. Four colours: Natural, English Tan, Heritage Brown, and Black.

Full-grain leather softens with use, darkens into a rich patina, and carries the marks of every work day.
