Women's Leather Belts

Every Popov Leather belt is made by hand in our workshop in Nelson, British Columbia, Canada. Our 13-year team cuts, burnishes, and finishes each belt in-house. Nothing is outsourced: the same workshop that finishes every edge also quality-checks every belt before it ships.

The Classic, Conway, and Women’s belts use a no-stitch build, a single piece of 9oz full-grain Seidel leather with hand-burnished edges, secured at the buckle by solid-brass Chicago screws. The Vanguard is machine-stitched along the edges for a cleaner silhouette.

Yes. Our 9oz full-grain Seidel leather is thick enough to hold its shape but supple enough to move with you, not a stiff industrial strap. Unlike bonded or synthetic belts, full-grain leather softens as you wear it and moulds to your waist within the first two weeks.

The result: a belt that feels broken-in faster than a new pair of boots, and only gets more comfortable the longer you own it.

Order your pants waist size plus 2 inches. If you wear 34-inch jeans, order a 36-inch belt, that puts you on the middle hole of the five on every Popov belt, with room to adjust in either direction. We offer sizes 32″ through 52″ in 1-inch increments.

A little. Full-grain leather is a natural fibre, so expect roughly 1-3 inches of total stretch over a lifetime of daily wear. Every Popov belt has five holes spaced 1 inch apart, so the stretch is easy to accommodate, just move to the next hole.

Our workshop team adds an extra hole free of charge if yours stretches beyond the top size, just ship the belt back.

Yes, shortening a leather belt is a DIY project you can do at home. Our buckles are secured with solid-brass Chicago screws (not rivets), so the process takes about 5 minutes.

Unscrew the two Chicago screws holding the buckle, cut the strap to length with a sharp knife, punch a new slot for the buckle tongue, and reattach the buckle.

If you’re not comfortable doing this yourself, any local cobbler or leatherworker can shorten a Popov belt in a few minutes.

Never put a full-grain leather belt in a washing machine, heat and detergent will strip its natural oils. For routine cleaning, wipe the belt down with a slightly damp cloth to lift dust, then let it air-dry flat at room temperature.

For deep conditioning, work a pea-sized amount of our “leather balm into the strap with a soft cloth in small circles once a year, that’s enough to keep 9oz Seidel full-grain supple for decades. Don’t overdo it; more balm doesn’t mean better conditioning.

Avoid direct heat like hair dryers or radiators. Leather shrinks and cracks when force-dried.

By a wide margin. A department-store bonded or “genuine leather” belt typically lasts 1-2 years before it splits. Our 9oz full-grain belts are backed by a lifetime guarantee, if it ever breaks, we repair or replace it free of charge.

Full-grain is the strongest, densest layer of a hide. Top-grain is sanded to remove imperfections (and along with them, strength). Bonded “genuine” leather is glued scraps. Only full-grain develops a patina and outlasts its owner.
